I’m a military historian, and reading this series (ever since it was on giantessworld or whatever) has inspired my own story as well, which right now is really more of a collection of drafts and lore that my actual stories are going to be based on. I have an idea for a possible collaboration project, though I understand that you guys have a well established group of people and probably don’t want to disturb that.
Just a suggestion or more along the lines of a whiny complaint, Darren Avery, atleast earlier in the novels, as a military man is cartoonishly unrealistic. No bearing, and a Seargent involved in something top secret?? He’s not even a commissioned officer, and even if he were, a man with as little propriety as him would be drummed out from any serious non-combat deployment in s heartbeat.
That being said, I understand he’s a character.
Good to speak to an actual military historian. I’m an amateur myself. I would have loved to have studied naval warfare but scholarships are limited in the UK and it wouldn’t pay the bills >.< But you're right. I said to Dann way back in 2013 that Darren should have been a Colonel. But Dann wants the working man! It worked in the end.
Would you like to go back and write in depth comments on the militaries and military characters in the series, with background information? I’d be quite interested to hear the take of someone who’s read a lot about such matters.
I’m also curious about this idea for a collaboration.
I missed the mention of collaboration. All I know is I have 2 chapter of hybrid left and then I’m done. Js and DX are mulling over more ideas but I don’t know if anything will come of it.
Exactly what I expected out of you. You’ve more than made your contribution; now go try to keep up with your kid.
As for the others, I know of The One Who Lived, The Red String, Transformation of the Tribe, and that post-Hybrid story about Rajenlif’s secretary conspiring against hybrids.
As for other stories, I can’t think of anything that’s truly necessary. However,
1) If DX (or JS) wants to try his hand at political satire, he could give us an episode of the later 22nd century Jon Stewart/John Oliver/Samantha Bee. What would those three say about the Titan Empire?
2) Or, if you want to try writing a thiller, Rixie and Vanser’s backgrounds as Imperators give you a chance to write the Titan James Bond/Batman, from before they saw humans for what they really are.
3) And then there’s that anti-Titan assassins thing you mentioned earlier. It has potential.
I fully intend to finish Training Day, and The One Who Lived I HAVE a plot lined out, and I may if anything release a rough version of that. It just never came to be. I had good intentions, but was then hit was unexpected surgery right after it was started. Soooo, it never came. But I did have a rough idea of how things were going to go, and if fan’s are curious enough, I could try to finish it. But getting back into the story may be difficult, its been so long. May be better to just tell everyone how I had planned to end it?
This has been amazing.
DX, JS and TD…is what he meant to say lol
I started writing about a galactic empire similar to the Titans waging a war against another nation state. I’ve been writing the course of the war like an actual conflict (battles, strategic victories/losses, genocide, ship to ship warfare, ship to planet warfare, infantry command structure in a civilization where infantry are no longer the primary means of taking and holding territory). I realized that something was taking off so I’ve also started designing a government, and other ‘lore’ on which my stories will be based. Then I thought, the similarities between Titans and Humans is interesting, as we focus on skin color and geographic location, but not size. At the risk of sounding a bit uncreative, the citizens of the empire I’m creating (the name of which will remain secret unless I can send it to you privately or something :P) are also humanoid in appearance. While the Titan Empire is more culturally diverse, with more opportunities for vertical and horizontal social movement, and a senate of sorts with a ruler that doesn’t world total power, my state is different. Its a caste based society, with a ruler holding absolute power; an autocracy. As a result, it has a stable, culturally stagnant society. Very powerful, with a navy possessing millions of warships (classes, weapons, dimensions, variants, protection, countermeasures, and other details of these warships has been written) and vast territory. Although it far exceeds the Titan Empire in military and territorial means, the two have maintained a state of ‘Cold War’ with neither side incurring the others wrath.
Eh, none of us are military historians, neither are we politicians, soldiers, or really experts on anything we cover in the novels. Just well meaning amateurs.
The story has evolved over the years, our writing has improved, and so has our understanding of things. If we make good on our plan to go back and copy edit the whole series, I honestly think there would be some major changes to all of the novels.
Considering I spear headed the story with the most military mumbo jumbo and tactical storyline, as the one in the group with the least knowledge of American Military Structure, I think it went well enough.
Hell, JJ Abrams Kirk is a bafoon who should never be given command of the Federation Flagship, your right, he’s a character.
Would we make changes, possibly changing his rank? Yea.
I know I for one would personally edit and change EVERY SINGLE line of dialogue and edit out that hokey fake phonetic accent I tried to write, that was a terrible TERRIBLE idea.
Oh my god I felt so bad for thinking that his accent was horrific when I tried sounding it out but I realized that I wouldn’t have fared much better nor would I now.
“Hello there,” he said in a slick southern accent. Southern hospitality and molasses came to mind when his words sauntered into your mind.
Eh, a little eloquent sounding… I’m not a terrific writer.
Darren is a fantastic character in a lot of ways, the Texas demeanor being part of that, but yeah, the funetik aksent went too far. Just enough to tell us that he sounds like he’s from Texas.
IT IS KIND OF LIKE WRITING ALL YOUR GIANTESS TEXT IN CAPS, TO SHOW HOW LOUD SHE SOUNDS!
Mistakes we all make, live and learn.
If someone started a MacrophiliaTropes website, that’s one of the first things you’d want to include.
Normally, as we have a large writing team, we generally catch something as terrible as Darren’s phonetic accent, before it goes out into print.
But, this one slipped by all radar for a long time. In retrospect, it would have saved me a lot of time to just write normal dialogue.
Very nice, DX.
@Genguidanos. Agreed. This woman gives so much love to tiny people(humans) and is an exciting person. Yes, I would worship that as a goddess. 🙂
Did she have a PHD…? Lol
She could if she wanted, I suppose. Colleges tend to be pretty receptive to people who can personally double their endowments….
(There’s an endowment joke in here somewhere…)
Only double?
But Earth music is still way better… opinion or not I have still yet to see or hear anything that can match Metallica or Tool nevermind Led Zeppelin from the Titan Empire… nice try boys, you might win on the PHD side but yall lost on the groove psssh… nice try homies
There isn’t a human band in history that can compete with intergalactic music experience Disaster Area! Well… at least their earlier work. After they died their later work suffered a noticeable decline in quality. Though you’ll still find people who’ll defend it.
That’s where your wrong boi, our music is so tight it will whistle in the wind like a virgin asshole, titan music ain’t got that soul boi… unless your counting the shit coming out nowadays… then they beat us
Very nice work by the artist. I do notice the background doesn’t “fit”. For the definitive picture I suggest a scene on Tayas Mons or somewhere on the surface of Avalon or given Pryvani’s nature in front of a crowd of startled Titans somewhere in the empire. 😉
Lucky Zahn…
She needs to add sparklers to that outfit….
She seems a bit overdressed. Was that before an official meeting of the Imperial Senate ? 😀
Also, damn, who wouldn’t worship that as a goddess!
You guys really need to add an image gallery.
They have actual lives outside of this and can barely keep up with the chapters. They need to sacrifice one of their group to solely focus on this and abandon their social lives XD
