Chapter Four: Clever Girl Titan: Exile by Dann

Eyrn pushed aside the massive iron door as gently as she could. There was a very distinct sound that came when the door was opened; Eyrn had long since learnt that if she bore the weight of the door as best she could it would open much more quietly.

“Psst….Izzy!” She whispered, which was rather a silly thing to do as even a whisper for her was quite loud. But it was not her intention to elude the attention of her sentry. Rather that was just the person she was hoping to get a hold of.

A curly haired brunette was leaning against the side of the ridiculously large housing structure, tapping a thick black combat boot off the wall. Grains of sand fell idly to the ground as she looked up, sharp grey eyes visible only from the dim lighting that surrounded the structure.

“Honestly you’re about as stealthy as a hippopotamus in heat!” Izzy’s voice was a little raspy and weathered; she had sharp hard features on her lightly tan face. She carried a worn and seasoned look to her. There was not a soldier on the base brave enough to get on her bad side. She was one of the only soldiers on the base who could stand up the Sarge and get away with it.

“Your words hurt you know?!” Eyrn feigned offence, with playfulness to her voice.

“Alright so whacha want? It’s past 2 am you really should be asleep.” Izzy flicked the butt of a smoke onto the sandy ground and snuffed it out with her boot, turning to face Eyrn who was leaning against the inside of the door trying to ‘hide’.

“I can’t sleep! I just slept yesterday! Really, that’s all you little people do is sleep!” Eyrn’s voice went pouty, her expression dropped.

“Then find something to do?” Izzy’s voice was mildly amused, but she was trying to keep her work face on.

“See, it’s like you read my mind!” A devious look peaked across Eyrn’s thin lips.

“What are you…oh…oh no way! Not this time! You’re already in enough shit…” Izzy was abruptly cut off by the tremor like quake of the approaching giantess.

“Oh come on Izzy! Please? I’m going stir crazy in here!” Eyrn quickly lowered herself to her knees before Izzy, her hands clasping together in a formal ‘begging’ position.

Izzy struggled to maintain her footing, bracing herself against the building for support. Izzy Ibanez was one of the few soldiers on the base Eyrn’s size did little to intimidate. But the clever girl still had hertactics.

“Don’t give me that look! Lady you’re not gonna be satisfied until I’m out of a job are you?!” Izzy crossed her arms, stepping back a bit from the rather large girl.

“Oh come-on Izzy! Don’t be a bluenose!” Eyrn’s eyes welled up like great big pools, her face in the cutest pout she could muster.

“NO!” Izzy grumbled and turned her back.

“Don’t be a stick in the mud! I can’t just sit around here all night. I’m gonna go stir crazy!” Eyrn shimmied a little closer, again causing quite a ruckus.

“Listen these damn AWOL adventures of yours are one big headache for the rest of us! You have no idea how HARD it is to hide a woman the size of a yatch!” Izzy almost stumbled once more as Eyrn shimmied closer.

“I wouldn’t have to go AWOL if you all didn’t keep me locked up like some big fancy dog on a leash!” Eyrn was starting to lose her temper, but began to breathe carefully and slowly to bring herself back down.

“Listen hun, I know it ain’t right but it’s the best we can do. People would freak out if they saw you, probably demand we kill you and we don’t want that.” Izzy sighed her voice went a little softer. “You’re just like my kid sister. All sweet and big eyed, I wish we could give you everything you wanted. But since we can’t, help us out and make it easier on all of us?”

Eyrn looked up and away from Izzy, her arms crossed over her chest and she let out a disgruntled huff. “I’m plenty normal I’ll have you know.” After a moment, Eyrn’s demeanor changed back to her hopeful optimism, she had not given up yet. “What do you think I’m even gonna do?! Go on a bender in Vegas and tear up the strip? Be real! I just want to go for a walk! Can’t I even do that?” Her voice was almost pleading, if she could lower herself any more she would have.

“You know I can’t let you do that…” Izzy’s resolve was starting to crack.

“Well…can’t you come with me then? Then I’m not going AWOL…THEN it’s an escort!” Eyrn lit up, her voice picked up a few octaves and she began to get a little giddy. “You have to watch me but they didn’t tell you WHERE right? Oh please Izzy just one short walk? I just want to stretch my legs a little! It’s all cramped and cooped up in that damn cage you guys keep me in! Please?!” Her voice went all out begging now.

“Urg…kid…I’m not really supposed to…”

“Please…please…PLEASE?” She picked up the act a little.

“…” Izzy sighed, and went limp. “God damnit.” She surrendered.

“Oh! Thank you Izzy!” Eyrn lit up like the neon lights of Vegas itself. She quickly reached for Izzy to embrace her in a hug, but thought better of it when the soldier sent her a warning glare. “T..thanks.” she calmed, half smiling.

Eyrn walked slowly, taking in the rather tranquil desert night. Izzy sat leaning against the nape of Eyrn’s neck, looking up at the stars as her charge strolled, what seemed like aimlessly about. The two were quite silent until Izzy spoke up. She seemed rather laid back for someone who had just been taken so easily.

“You wanna hear something funny?” She closed her eyes the rhythmic movements of Eyrn’s slow pace was actually quite relaxing.

“What’s that?” Eyrn’s voice was about as relaxed as it could be, she felt free and a little bit normal out on her own. Enough to help leave her worries behind her.

“This whole area…around the Area 51…you wanna know how we keep curious onlookers away?” Her tone picked up a clever heir.

“By telling them there’s a mean ogre who’ll eat them up!” Eyrn made a silly face and snarled a little.

“Heh, right…you’re about as fierce as a kitten…no that’s not what we tell them!” Izzy grinned.

“Well what? Aliens?” Eyrn guessed next.

“Clever, but no. But that tends to be the most common assumption.” Izzy seemed proud of her ability to keep Eyrn guessing. She laid back just a little more, dangling one leg over the other and bounding her foot idly.

“Well what then?” Eyrn frowned, she didn’t like guessing.

“Well, remember when you were younger…that whole ordeal with the reporters and the scandal that forced the move to Nevada?” Izzy began.

“Heh, yea.” Eyrn sounded less than eager to talk about that.

“Well shortly after that the government came up with this whole load about this whole area being full of deadly radiation.” Izzy sounded as if she was about to laugh.

“I…don’t see how that’s funny?” Eyrn narrowed her eyes a bit.

“Oh come on…like we’d build an air base in the middle of a radioactive wasteland!” Izzy smiled.

“I suppose that’s a bit funny.” Eyrn smiled.

“So where are we going anyhow? You have some sort of destination or anything kid?” Izzy spoke up once the two had stopped laughing.

“Actually there is this place I like to go…” Eyrn lowered her voice, as if to stress the secretive nature of what she was about to say.

“Oh?” Izzy’s interest was suddenly peaked. “You have a…place?” Mild annoyance mixed with accusative wonder was present in her voice.

“You don’t think I take you along on all my little outings do you Izzy?” There was a clever ring to Eyrn’svoice.

“No, I suppose not.” Izzy grumbled she was just staring to understand why she had been strung along. Eyrn was clever like that, she knew just how to manipulate the different guards who were left in charge of her. With Reese she could intimidate him, flaunt her size, Blake she could flirt with, and Izzy was a sucker for the ‘kid sister’ act.

Eyrn winked, her pace picked up just a little. “Now now, no need to pout.” She teased.

“Whatever! You’re lucky I don’t make you turn your wide load ass around for that cheeky little act!” Izzy grumbled, but didn’t sound overly offended.

“Oh, and I’d like to see you make me!” Eyrn’s tone was not malicious, but there was an air of confidence.

Izzy felt her eyes widen as the realization struck her that Eyrn was right. There wasn’t any way that she, alone, could make the massive woman do anything. “I-I’ll remember this next time I’m on watch.” Izzy snapped, hoping that Eyrn didn’t notice the nervous hitch in her voice.

“Oh come on Izzy! Don’t be like that! This is a heck of a lot more fun than sitting in the sand all shift right?” There was a perkiness to Eyrn’s voice. She felt just a little bit bad for startling her with such an abrasive statement.

“Eh…I guess.”

“See! So it’s not all bad!” Eyrn hid a victorious grin. Even rough and tough Izzy was easy to string along.

“Alright! So where are we going?!” Izzy seemed eager to take the subject off her inability to crack down on the mountain of a woman. The truth was Eyrn may be large and imposing, but she had a very cute and loveable charm to her. She handled herself well around the smaller people around her, and very seldom did anything to remind people she was very much a deadly weapon on legs.

“Well there’s a dry lake bed just around here…” Eyrn began.

“Papoose Lake?” Izzy scoffed. “Why on earth do we want to go there?” She questioned with some disdain.

“Well…I like to walk about there.” Eyrn blushed. “Don’t laugh! But there’s nothing around…it’s just this huge wide open dry lake bed…and when I crawl down there I kinda…” she sighed.

“What?” Izzy pushed on quickly.

“I feel small! You know…it’s this massive lake bed! Nothing for miles on either side. No tiny things to trip over…no little people bossing me around, no rock faces and cliffs at knee height! I just feel small.” Eyrn spoke with a wistful sigh. “I can run…or walk for as long as I want in one direction and for a while it just feels like I’m a normal person taking a walk. Not stepping over hills or crushing bushes or anything.”

“Ah…” Izzy went silent. The two of them didn’t speak for a while, the silence was only broken when Izzy felt Eyrn stop walking. She opened her eyes and looked out to the vast expanse of the lake bed before her. It was a dry, cracked and barren place. Izzy didn’t see much use for it, but the look on Eyrn’s face was more than enough to justify the trip.

“Izzy…would you mind?” Eyrn offered a hand for Izzy, who climbed aboard without fuss. Eyrn carefully lowered the soldier to the ground and took a few steps back carefully.

“Stay where I can see you alright? Please?” Izzy spoke with authority in her voice.

“I will!” Eyrn grinned.

“No funny shit!” Izzy snapped.

“Cross my heart and hope to die!” Eyrn made a cross motion over her heart.

“Heh, alright go have fun.” Izzy smiled and pulled a smoke from her side pocket a long with a small zippo lighter. “I swear if I have to hunt you down I’m shooting you square in that oversized ass!” Izzy teased, with a warm tone.

“Ouch!” Eyrn rubbed her bottom as she turned, without much warning she broke into slight jog, from there she picked her speed up until she was flat out running.

Izzy fell back suddenly on her ass from the impact tremor. With a sigh she lit her smoke and took a long deep breath from the filter end, deciding to stay where she was for the time being. “Shit…” she muttered, mildly amazed at the sight before her.

Eyrn was always so careful, so delicate with every step. She moved like a fine dancer, it came from years of experience living with people so tiny and fragile. When she was around the base, even playing her war games with the troops, she had to be careful; she had to be the one to watch her step. But as she ran on the dry flat lake bed, she seemed to put all reservations aside. She didn’t watch where she was stepping, she didn’t soften her treads. She swung her arms at her side and ran, like she hadn’t a care in the world. Her long brown hair whipped against her cheek as she pushed herself in the pale moonlight.

“Impressive eh?” Izzy nearly jumped, a male voice startled her from behind, a thick gruff voice with a familiar twangy drawl.

“Shit.” She muttered, scrambling to her feet.

“At ease!” Darren laughed, biting the end off of his cigar. “If ah wanted’te stop ya’ll I’d’a done it before ya left the base.” Darren leant in, Izzy instinctively lit his cigar, taking another long puff from her smoke.

“Heh, you’re as bad as her! You know that?!” Izzy did not sound at all impressed; she crossed her arms over her chest and turned slightly.

“Yer nat the first one the twat’s sucked in…’n ‘opefully yer not the last!” Darren seemed in a good mood, he smirked wickedly as foul smoke wafted form his cigar.

“Hmhph!” Izzy grumbled, her attention once more to Eyrn. She had taken to an impressive full out sprint and had her eyes intently focused on something ahead of her.

“What…what’s she up to?” Izzy questioned.

Jus watch…” Darren grinned.

Izzy’s jaw dropped at the sight, Eyrn was running faster than she had seen any living creature move. “H…how fast..?”

“We got her clocked at over 200 miles per hour but I bet she can get upta 220 if she really tries.” Darren spoke with pride in his voice.

“Well I’ll be…”Izzy’s tone could not hide the amazement.

“Just wait…best part’s coming.” Darren kept his calm but was watching as close as he could.

Once she had reached the fastest she was going to get up to, the giantess suddenly stopped, in one solid movement she hopped, took a skip and then jumped forward in one great bounding leap!

“Might wanna brace yerself.” Darren grumbled, bracing himself in a crouching position.

Izzy didn’t hear Darren as he spoke, she was too fascinated with the marvel before her. Like an Olympic gymnast in the long jump division, Eyrn seemed to soar through the air, in perfect form.

“Look at that! She cleared 200 feet easily!” Izzy gasped.

“Careful…” Darren repeated.

Before Izzy could look down to question him, the immense impact tremor caused by her sudden landing rocked the landscape. Izzy felt as if she was standing in the midst of an earth quake. She easily lost her footing and fell hard onto her rear. The sound the landing had produced was terrifying; reminiscent of a sonic boom.

“Fucking hell!” Izzy’s eyes nearly bugged out of her head. She scrambled to get up, but one look from Darren and a shake of his head forced her back down, and to a crouching position like him.

“She’s not done.” He laughed.

Izzy snapped her eyes back to Eyrn in the distance, which took hardly any time what so ever to recover from her long jump, and was running once again, almost as fast as she had been to start with. Then with grace and agility she did what looked to be a series of cartwheels, followed by a forward flip, landing on her feet with a poise and grace that would make Olympians jealous.

“How often does she come out and do this?!” Izzy screamed, both amazed and terrified at what shehad seen.

“As often as she can ah wadger.” Darren shrugged. “Figure at least half as many times as ah’ve caught’er.” Darren didn’t look at all worried or upset.

“W…what?” Izzy looked back to Eyrn in the now far distance, she was continuing her very strange and impressive work out. Various acrobatic feats, mixed with very intense running.

“Well…big girl like that…gotta keep her in shape.” He shrugged. “S’ides…she’s lived ‘ere lot longer’n you’er I Izz-er.” Darren chuckled.

“Just how old is she?” Izzy narrowed her eyes, trembling at another terrifying earth quake.

“Oooh they figure she ages about 6 times her so slower’n we do. Now she came here in the late 40’s…’n she wuz’nt much older’n highschool age at the time.” Darren looked to Izzy with a serious look. “She’s about 162..If ah hadda guess.” Darren shrugged. “Wuz just a lil sprat when they found’er.”

Izzy just watched. She knew Eyrn was more than she appeared, but there were so many rumours and myths about her flying around the base, she never knew what to believe.

“W…what is she?” Izzy asked, almost afraid to wait for the answer.

“Heh.” Darren took a moment to enjoy his cigar.

“No…really…Sarge…what is she?” She looked to Darren, her expression dire.

Darren tossed his spent cigar on the ground and kicked some dirt over it, running his hand under his nose with a sharp sniff. “A pain in my gat’dang arse! That’s what she is!” Darren stood and made his way over in her general direction to Eyrn, who had stopped to catch her breath a few miles away. “Let’s go.”

Darren had arrived via Jeep, it took him and Izzy driving quite fast almost 5 minutes to reach where Eyrn had ended up. She was in a crouching position, catching her breath. The ground around her was wet from her sweat, her clothes were damp and sticking to her body and her skin looked red and flush.

“Was wondering how long it’d take you this time Sarge.” She spoke, through gulping breaths.

“Har-har-har…fuggen twat! I swear! Yer gonna give yerself a gat’dang heart attack! Then were gonna have’t chop her corpse up’n lug it outta this dang place!” Darren seemed more annoyed than angry.

“Awww, it’s sweet you care boss!” Eyrn stuck her tongue out, a grin formed on her face.

“Bah! More work fer me is wut it is! Danget kid can’t you pace yerself! How’t hell am I supposed‘t carry her sorry arse back if you break a leg! Eh?!” Darren sighed, pulling out another cigar from his breast pocket. He hadn’t quite managed to get it to his lips when Eyrn skillfully snatched it and flicked it away.

“Those things smell like ass!” She protested.

“Gat’dang sum’va’beech! The hell yew get aff wit that kinda insubordination!” Darren fumed, leaping out of the door-less jeep. He stormed towards Eyrn with purpose, pointing viciously at her. “Yer lucky ah put up wit this shit from you! I autta keep her sorry arse locked up fer all the shit you put me through!”

Izzy sat back, still taking in what she had seen. Few had the honor of seeing Eyrn throw her restraint to the wind and let herself loose like that.

“N’say you break them do-hickies in ya eh? Think we can find another set? Ah don’t think so! If yer lucky an nat crushed right here ya’d end up spending the rest of yer life in a gat’dang aquarium!” Darren of course was referring to the very devices that allowed Eyrn to move about freely and unrestricted under the oppressive gravity of the earth. When she was in her early teens they had discovered mechanical implants in her arms and legs. While very little was known about the strange technology, what was clear was when they were de activated she couldn’t so much as move, let alone breath. She was little more than a beached whale. There was a failsafe remote deactivation switch that had been implemented. In case the worst had ever happened and Eyrn had to be stopped…it was not something that was considered without great deliberation. Darren hoped he would never have to be the one to make such a call.

“They’ve lasted this long…I’m sure they’ll last a bit longer!” Eyrn dismissed his hovering concern and rolled her eyes. She didn’t like being so dependent on other people.

“Ah’m nat kidding twat! Ya need to take easy! Yet nat exactly built fer this place remember. Anything goes wrong and yer fucked!” Darren grumbled, braving the muddy soil near her sweat covered body to approach closer, he rested his hand on the pale skin of her exposed ankle. “Yer quite warm twat…come on…we best get ya back.”

Eyrn grinned, standing slowly. She looked up at the starry sky. The silence made Darren look uneasy.

“Twat! You heard me.”

Eyrn peeked down at Darren and winked. “One more lap.” Her tone left little room for argument.

“Heh, why the ‘ell not!” Darren laughed, he respected a lady who wasn’t afraid to push herself.

Without a response Eyrn took off once more, leaving Darren and Izzy in her wake.

“That’s just…crazy!” Izzy finally spoke up.

“You wanted to know what she was?” Darren grinned.

“Mmhm.”

“Who the hell cares what…she’s gat’dang incredible is what she is!” Darren spoke in sheer reverence.
