Loona watched Niall’s face. Every Titan had seen a Human at one point or another growing up; whether it was in a pet shop, a display somewhere or at school. A male in his mid –twenties gawping like a toddler at the little girl clinging to her finger was unheard of.
“You’ve really never seen a Human before have you?” Loona smiled.
Niall continued to stare at the little girl with dirty blonde hair. “I…I’ve probably seen more Humans than you. Just never from this perspective….”
Loona smiled. She was becoming more and more convinced he was actually a holographic projection of a Human and not an attention seeking Titan.
“Do you want to hold her?” Loona asked reaching Nonah out in her hand to Niall.
Niall backed off suddenly, hopping out of his seat, almost knocking it over. Loona and Nonah both giggled at him. The sight of this massive man trying to get away from the miniature girl hanging off a dainty finger was too funny. Naskia was looking on confused from behind her book. She couldn’t see what Loona had in her hand but Niall was backing off from her. He didn’t look scared, just incredibly uncomfortable.
“No, no. It’s ok. Ehhh I’ll just watch.” Niall said slowly moving back to his seat.
Loona set Nonah down on the bar top. “Go see Niall.”
Nonah ran the 4 feet distance between the pair. Niall watched her for the 30 seconds it took her to jog the distance to him. She approached his hands resting on the counter and Niall consciously lifted them off and placed them on to his lap. The little girl stopped and stood there sulking, unable to fulfil Loona’s command.
There were a million things going through Niall’s mind.” Is it ok that she’s naked? Is Naskia watching? Is this really what I look like to them? Is it seriously ok that she’s naked? Will Naskia be mad if I touch a naked girl? Should I pick her up? Should I get her something to wear? I cannot look that tiny? Can I?”
“She wants you to pick her up.” Loona prompted.
Niall panicked. He was uncomfortable about picking up a naked girl, especially with Naskia watching him. He shot her a glance that she picked it up sending him back a small, comforting smile. Niall spotted a nearby pile of napkins. He picked up one of the maroon pieces of paper and draped it over Nonah’s shoulders. He tried to consciously think about how he hated being picked up and handled roughly so he set his hand out flat on the bar top for her to step on.
Nonah was giggling and had dropped the bed sheet sized napkin. Niall, ever aware of Naskia, set it back on her shoulders.
“Keep that on you or I won’t pick you up.” He said.
“Relax.” Loona interrupted. “She’s a Human. She doesn’t wear clothes.”
Niall shot her a look. “I’m Human and I wear clothes.”
“Oh, sorry, right.” Loona said deciding just to observe.
Nonah had stepped on to Niall’s hand. It was an exceptionally odd sensation holding another person in his hand. He noticed she was probably the same height as his little finger. He lifted Nonah to his face. It didn’t feel like he actually had anything in his palm she was so light. He only knew she was there as she kept hopping about his palm. She seemed to have absolutely no fear of falling unlike he did. He always tried to sit down in the centre of Naskia’s palm but Nonah was happy on her feet.
“You’re a Human? Like me?” Nonah asked him when she reached face level.
“Yeah I am….” Niall replied. He was still processing the strange feeling of being able to hold a Human being in his hand.
“Woooooooooooow. How did you get so big?” Nonah asked accepting what she had been told without question.
Niall didn’t answer. It wasn’t that he looked down on her for her small size or that he regarded her as stupid but his mind was busy whirring away.
“Naskia…” He called.
Naskia’s ears pricked up. She had wanted to hide and keep out of this and now he’d deliberately rumbled her. She put the book down. Niall was right. She hated it. The author was a clearly an arrogant, misogynistic, self-righteous moron. It was a good thing Niall was a bit more advanced tehn he was or she probably would have locked him in his terrarium permanently. She got up and approached the bar.
“Ahhh hello Miss Bass. It’s good to see you again.” Loona said pleased to see she was right about Naskia.
“Hi…” Naskia replied nervously.
Niall ignored everything going on around him and placed Nonah into Naskia’s palm. Naskia looked down at the smiling girl in her palm.
“Well this explains why he looked so uncomfortable…” she thought.
Naskia felt pangs of jealousy again, much stronger than she had felt with Loona. She was beautiful with long, thick, wavy dirty blonde hair, high red cheeks, massive brown eyes and lightly tanned skin. She had an amazing figure. A flat toned stomach; toned legs and arms to go with it. She clearly spent a lot of time exercising. Naskia thought that Nonah’s breasts were proportionally bigger than her own. Niall would surely be taken with a girl that was not only more beautiful than her but also his own size.
“Pause the program and pass her to me.” Niall said standing up.
Loona decided to let this play out.
Naskia tapped a few buttons on her pad and Niall disappeared. She walked over to the corner of the room where Niall’s environment was now visible. She placed Nonah on the floor beside Niall and shot him a look that said “What are you up to?”
Niall walked to his pad and sealed their environment. He still disliked Naskia looking over him. Naskia was annoyed that Niall wasn’t keeping her in the loop. This was supposed to be a simple interview and now he had locked himself away with a naked girl. Naskia tapped on her pad and resumed the program
“Where’s Nonah?” Loona asked looking a bit concerned when she saw Naskia didn’t have her any more.
“She’ll be back in a minute. I think Niall just wants to show off.” Naskia said not 100% sure which of the three women he was showing off to.
“Right…sure.” Loona replied a bit worried about Nonah. “So how come you changed your mind, about the interview?”
“I didn’t change my mind. It was never my decision. I told Niall about your request and he replied. I just didn’t want to admit to having him in a public hallway. Did Dorok tell you then?” Naskia asked.
“Yeah he did. That guy is such a sleaze. He made me go out on a date with him to get your name and then tried to get me to do other stuff before he told me.” Loona said gesturing for Naskia to sit down in Niall’s seat.
Naskia sat and ordered a glass of wine. She was mildly annoyed at having to speak to a reporter by herself but she liked that she shared her opinion of Dorok.
“Eugh, if he had of tried that with me I would have broken his nose.” Naskia said disgusted.
Loona nearly spat her wine over the bar. “Remind me never to get on your bad side.”
Naskia smiled. That was the first time anyone had ever said that to her.
“Ladies.” A voice came from behind them. Naskia and Loona turned round to see Niall standing with a smug grin on his face. He stepped to his side to reveal a bashful looking Titan sized Nonah. She was dressed in a pretty, light green dress that came down to just above her knees and showed off a hint of cleavage. She was about half way between Loona and Naskia in height. Naskia felt like she paled away in comparison to the beautiful newcomer.
“Nonah! You look so pretty!” Loona said hopping off her chair and running over and hugging her.
Nonah looked confused to be looking her owner in the eye but hugged her back.
“Thank you Loona. You always look pretty.” Nonah said batting her eyelids.
Niall noticed Nonah looked a bit out of her depth and overwhelmed by the experience. She was relying on her attractiveness to carry her rather than her intellect. She was clearly intelligent enough to be aware that she was out of her depth and what she tools she had available to her. Niall could see the shine in her eyes that showed there was intelligence in there. She was about 18 or 19 years old. She would probably be a university student like Naskia and Loona if she was on Earth.
“How does it feel being Titan sized?” Naskia asked forcing herself to get involved so she didn’t seem like the jealous girl in the corner.
“I thought it would be strange but it isn’t. You all look like Humans. It’s quite weird wearing clothes. I like my dress though! It’s pretty.” Nonah said playing with the fabric.
Naskia and Nonah sat down at a table talking about dresses while Niall went to the bar followed by Loona. Niall ordered another round of drinks for the group. He figured they had enough time to get a round in before their time was up. The interview seemed to be on hold for now anyway.
“You could have asked before you made Nonah Titan sized.” Loona said.
“I did. I asked if she wanted to be Titan sized and she said she did. Quite enthusiastically I might add.” Niall replied.
“I meant me.” Loona said a bit annoyed.
“Loona, I respect that you’re writing an article on me but I’m going to be frank. If you believe you have some sort of say over Nonah then you believe she is a lesser being, therefore you believe that I am a lesser being. I don’t believe I am so I felt no need to consult you. Does that make sense?” Niall collected the drinks and brought them to the table. Loona didn’t move but simply called him back.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it like that. You’re different than she is though.”
Niall sipped at his pint. “I’m really not. Sit down at the table and talk with her. Look into her eyes. You can always tell if someone is a truly intelligent, inquisitive person by looking into their eyes. Nonah’s eyes are just as bright as yours. If she was born on Earth she would be studying at university. She might even be a journalism student like you.”
Loona dwelled on Niall’s last sentence. She looked over at Nonah. She was dipping her finger into her drink and licking the wine off it. Naskia giggled at her and Nonah mimicked her. Naskia demonstrated how to drink from the cup and Nonah copied picking up the technique quickly. Nonah also noticed she had one leg crossed over the other. She emulated her trying to appear more like a Titan person would.
Loona smiled. She had only gotten Nonah a month ago. She had quickly grown fond of her. She was so lovable and friendly. Her parent’s Humans were a good bit older than Nonah and were less playful with her when she was growing up.
“Do you really think she’s smart?” Loona quizzed sounding like she was coming round.
Niall got up and went to join Naskia and Nonah “Don’t trust my judgement. You’re a journalist; you’re supposed to be insightful. Judge for yourself.”
Niall and Loona sat down. Naskia glanced at them as they did. Loona looked a bit uncomfortable. Seeing her pet eye to eye obviously was difficult for her. Niall was sitting back drinking his beer, he obviously just wanted to observe the proceedings. Naskia decided she should take the lead here.
Nonah chimed in before Naskia had the chance “You seem unhappy Loona, are you annoyed I’m big?”
Loona smiled at her “No…no. That’s not it….just thinking.”
“Something Niall said?” Nonah quizzed.
Niall smiled. She was quite intuitive.
“He thinks you could be smart. I’ve always assumed Humans weren’t but it’s hard to tell when I sit and talk with you like this. Do you like sitting here like this?” Loona said.
Nonah took a ladylike sip of her wine “Yeah I do. It’s like when I was growing up. We used to sit around the heater at night and talk about stuff and tell jokes and old stories. I really liked hearing the stories from the old times. Sometimes we’d pretend to be people from the stories and we’d tell them that way rather than just talk them! It was lots of fun.”
Naskia’s big eyes widened as she watched Nonah smile and thought about all the little humans acting out stories for each other. She let out a high pitched “Awww”.
“Tell us a story, your favourite one!” Naskia said excited.
“Yeah please Nonah. I never knew Humans told stories!” Loona added.
Nonah blushed from the attention and sipped more wine. She was enjoying the warm feeling of the alcohol while she could.
“There’s the story of the Beautiful Princess. I really like that one. I always got chosen to be the princess.”
“That’s so sweet, you have to tell us!” Naskia said. Niall was still sitting back quietly observing. She reached over and placed her hand on top of his. He smiled down at her and then wrapped her hand in his own. Naskia loved it when he made her feel small.
Nonah began telling her story.
“There once was a Girl who lived in a beautiful country with hills and forests and green fields and all the things you could want. She was the most Beautiful Girl who ever lived; she had long golden hair, eyes as deep and as blue as the sea and skin as soft as silk. It was said she was the Daughter of the Gods themselves. All the boys wanted her but she always said no because she was waiting for the boy her heart wanted.
But the beautiful land was ruled by an Evil King who wanted the Beautiful Girl for himself. He took her away from her home and married her. She was locked in his castle and the Evil King showed her off like a prize to the other kings and queens. She cursed herself for being so beautiful and cried herself to sleep every night.” Nonah said embellishing the story with her voice and hand gestures as she told it.
“Awww.” Naskia interrupted unable to control herself.
“One day two Princes came from a land across the sea. The older one was a great warrior and the younger one was a poet and a dreamer. The Dreamer fell in love with the Beautiful Girl when he first saw her and even though he was supposed to be a friend of the Evil King he hid her and took her to his home across the sea.
They fell in love and were both were happier than they ever thought they could be. He would write poetry for her and she would make him dream the greatest dreams anyone would ever have. They were married and he was her Prince and she was his Princess. But the Evil King was enraged when he found his wife had been taken from him. He raised a great army and set out across the sea to take her back.
The army arrived at the city of the Dreamer Prince but it could not get in. The city had great walls, so big not even a Titan could get break them or climb them. The Evil King’s army tried to attack the walls but the Warrior Prince drove them back. Many died on both sides. The Evil King swore revenge and swore he would burn the Dreamer Prince’s city to the ground.” Nonah paused and sipped her wine.
Naskia and Loona were hanging on her every word. They had never heard a story like it. Niall tried to suppress a grin; he’d heard this story before.
“Attack after attack failed and the Evil King’s army was almost broken when a Clever Captain came to him and said that if attacking did not work then they should try to sneak in. The great walls had no cracks and there was no way to sneak in but the Clever Captain was very clever indeed. He hid what was left of the great army and they built giant wooden animal, as big as a shaar! They left it as a gift for the Dreamer Prince and it was brought into the Dreamer’s city.
But it was a trick. The wooden animal was filled with the Evil King’s soldiers. They snuck out at night and opened the gates and the great army swarmed into the city. The Evil King did as he promised and he burned the city to the ground. He left no man, woman or child alive and said it was a warning to anyone who would dare to ever steal from him again. No one knows what happened to the Beautiful Girl and her Dreamer Prince. Some people think they escaped, others think they died in each other’s arms. I like to think they were saved by the Gods and live with them to this day.” Nonah finished.
The three audience members clapped and Nonah blushed embarrassed at the praise.
“That’s such a sweet, sad story.” Naskia said. “You tell it so well.”
Loona smiled softly. She didn’t know Nonah could tell such good stories. There was definitely an emotional intelligence in the way she told it. The way she punctuated with gestures and used her voice to convey emotion. It would give the drama students a run for their money.
“Would you like to know the name of the Beautiful Princess?” Niall asked.
“You’ve heard the story before?” Naskia said.
“I have, it’s called The Iliad. It’s about a war between two cities in the Bronze Age on Earth.” Niall replied.
Nonah shifted uncomfortably in her seat. “Ohhhh I dunno! I love the story I grew up with. It might ruin it if I know their names. What if I don’t like them?! Ohhhh….tell me!”
“The Warrior Prince is called Hector and The Dreamer Prince is called Paris. They are from the city of Troy.” Niall said.
“Paris….that’s a pretty name.” Nonah smiled.
“The Evil King is called Menelaus and he ruled the city of Sparta. The beautiful land is called Greece.” Niall continued deliberately not giving her the answer she most wanted first.
Nonah’s eyes shined with anticipation. “And the Beautiful Princess?!”
“The Beautiful Princess was called Helen. History remembers her as Helen of Troy.” Niall said.
“Helen….that’s a pretty name. It suits her.” Nonah replied looking wistful.
“5 minutes remaining” Chimed an electronic voice from nowhere.
“Awk now that’s a shame and I never got to finish the interview.” Loona said getting up and starting to gather up her things.
“You could always finish the interview at our house if you have time.” Naskia said. She was feeling more comfortable after sitting around and talking for a while. Niall had observed Nonah and Loona but continued to show her affection.
Nonah’s eyes lit up at the prospect of spending more time out in the big world. She hated being cooped up in her terrarium by herself. She loved to be with Loona and often got lonely when Loona was away or asleep.
Loona checked the time. “I’ve a few hours to spare actually and I really do need to finish this interview.”
Nonah jumped out of her chair and hugged Loona tightly, startling her. “Yay!” she squealed.
Naskia had a cheeky idea. “Nonah, why don’t you stand beside Loona for a second?”
“Ok!” Nonah said smiling cheerfully.
Naskia picked up her pad and pointed the camera at Loona and Nonah. Nonah had no idea what was happening but Loona quickly realised and smiled uncomfortably as Naskia took their picture.
Naskia smiled at the picture and turned it around to show the two girls. “There see! Now you have something to remember today by.”
Nonah gasped and hopped up and down. “It’s us! It’s us!”
